About Sponge

Emerging from Detroit in the early ’90s, Sponge exploded onto the national scene with their debut album Rotting Piñata (Sony), fueled by massive hits like “Plowed” and “Molly (16 Candles Down the Drain).” The band quickly became a staple on radio and MTV, earning gold and platinum records and making high-profile TV appearances, including The Late Show with David Letterman, Conan O’Brien, and The Howard Stern Show. Their follow-up album, Wax Ecstatic (Columbia), spawned additional Billboard Top 10 hits such as “Wax Ecstatic” and “Have You Seen Mary?” and earned praise from Rolling Stone, which named “Wax Ecstatic” a Song of the Year in 1997.

Led by frontman Vinnie Dombroski, the current lineup includes Andy Patalan (guitar/vocals), Tim Patalan (bass), Kyle Neely (guitar), and Dave Coughlin (drums). Sponge’s music has been featured in iconic films like Empire Records, Mall Rats, The Craft, and Chasing Mavericks, further cementing their legacy in pop culture. With a dynamic sound rooted in the gritty heart of Detroit rock, Sponge has released nine studio albums, four live albums, and continues to evolve with new material like Lavatorium and 1994.

In April 2025, they recorded a new live album at the legendary Whisky A Go-Go in Los Angeles and are slated to hit the road this fall with Everclear and Local H for a full U.S. tour. Don’t Miss This High-Energy Night of Rock!
