Inspired by a once-popular reality television show, Ambler Savings Bank wrapped up its employee Biggest Loser Challenge by donating $1,795 to Saint John’s Hospice.

The Biggest Loser Challenge started in January and ran until April. Employees who participated were weighed on the first and last day of the challenge. The winner was determined by the highest percentage of weight lost. This internal competition, held for the third time since 2019, results in a $5 donation for every pound lost. This year, employees lost a total of 159 pounds, generating a $795 donation to a local charity chosen by the winner.

This year’s winner, Chief Financial Officer Tom Keenan, selected Saint John’s Hospice as the recipient of the competition’s charitable donation. Keenan contributed an additional $500, which was matched through the company’s employee gift-matching program.

Located in Center City, Saint John’s Hospice’s mission is to serve individuals and families experiencing homelessness to help them find dignity, respect, nourishment, and opportunities for new beginnings.

“We are truly grateful to Tom and Ambler Savings Bank for being chosen as the recipients of the Biggest Loser award, as well as for the very generous matching gift,” said Kris Jaeger, Director of Development and Community Relations at Saint John’s Hospice. “It is truly heartwarming to have your support for the work and mission of Saint John’s.”

Ambler Savings Bank is a community-focused, mutually organized bank headquartered in Ambler. It operates branches in Fairview Village, Limerick, and Bally and serves several continuing care retirement communities.
