There was an outpouring of support for former Crozer Health employees who flooded Subaru Park Tuesday morning in the hopes of securing a new job, writes Kathleen E. Carey for the Daily Times.
Hundreds of businesses also attended to help the workers move on.
“I hope that it’s like a big hug from our community to the impacted workers …” said Kate McGeever, executive director of the Delaware County Workforce Board,
More than 700 people, 226 employers, and 30 community organizations pre-registered for the fair.
Pennsylvania Labor and Industry Secretary Nancy Walker described the Crozer and Taylor Hospital staff as the “best among us,” who have been at bedsides, kept the lights on, and did everything in between.
About 3,000 people were laid off from the Crozer Health closure.
“We miss you already … A lot of people care about your future,” said Chester Mayor Stefan Roots.
Crozer Health employees were appreciative.
Sue DiMatteo had put in 38 years with Crozer as an environmental services worker. She met her husband, Tom, there, who was a materials worker or 45 years before retiring.
“It sucks to see it go. It’s our whole family,” he said.
