Crozer Health CEO Tony Esposito is stepping down as head of the embattled healthcare system, effective Friday.
Greg Williams, president of Prospect Medical Holdings East Coast operations, will assume the role in the interim, writes Kenny Cooper for WHYY.
Meanwhile, Crozer is transitioning select medical services to keep Crozer-Chester Medical Center in Upland and Taylor Hospital in Ridley Park running as Prospect Medical continues bankruptcy proceedings.
Crozer Health staff is reporting that layoffs have begun for some, with the home care and hospice programs at Taylor Hospital shutting down.
Renee Masella, who has worked as a Crozer occupational therapist with the home care and hospice department, confirmed she and others in those departments received layoff notices, reports Joe Holden for CBS News.
“All of us have been holding on really tight and taking it week by week, day by day, actually,” Masella said. “The uncertainty of the services has been the hardest part for all of us.”
Crozer Health’s future at this stage depends on negotiations that would successfully transfer the system to a consortium of unnamed buyers.
Esposito has led Delaware County’s largest health system for two years.
“It has been an honor to serve alongside this talented team, and I want to thank each of you for the dedication that you bring to caring for our patients and the Delaware County community day in and day out,” Esposito said in a Monday evening email to employees.
