King of Prussia-based Chartwell has opened its first Maryland office in Annapolis by poaching four local attorneys from Kiernan Trebach, a Washington D.C.-based firm, writes Garrett Dvorkin for the Philadelphia Business Journal.
The Annapolis office will be run by Justin Cuniff and is just the first stage of Chartwell’s Maryland expansion plans. According to Charles Barreras, one of Chartwell’s founding partners, the firm is also planning on adding a permanent office space in Baltimore.
“We consider opening this Annapolis office as planting a flag here in Maryland,” he said. “We’ve represented many clients throughout the state, and we hope that this is the beginning of something that will grow and flourish.”
The new office will begin with four attorneys, the firm’s first permanent attorneys based in Maryland, and a total staff of nine. The attorneys who joined Chartwell alongside Cuniff are Michael Cuches, Jason Engel, and Carlos Uria.
The office will focus on litigation, especially in the hospitality, transportation, and retail sectors. The space the firm leased is a little over 5,000 square feet.
Chartwell had previously leased a temporary office in Locust Point.
