Stanley S. Cohen, formerly of Lower Merion, retired managing partner at the Fox Rothschild law firm, volunteer, and mentor, died on September 19 at 84, writes Gary Miles for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

Cohen, who is also a past president at Har Zion Temple, is a Philadelphia native. He graduated from West Philadelphia High School and Temple University Law School. He married his wife, Lita in 1966.

Cohen spent over half a century at Fox Rothschild in various roles, from being an associate attorney to becoming chair of the real estate department to senior counsel, among others.

He stepped down as managing partner 13 years ago but continued to serve as a consultant and work on special projects until recently.

He was known for mentoring young lawyers and promoting the careers of colleagues. He knew the names and stories of nearly everyone he encountered.

A former colleague said he was “the most beloved lawyer” at the firm.

Cohen was also a tireless volunteer who was appointed as the only man on the Pennsylvania State Commission for Women by Gov. Tom Ridge in the late 1990s.
