Schradergroup Acquisition Brings Conshohocken Design Expertise to National Stage

Conshohocken's Schradergroup joins Hord Coplan Macht, spotlighting Montco’s architecture talent on a national stage.

Conshohocken-based Schradergroup has been acquired by Hord Coplan Macht, a major architecture firm headquartered in Baltimore, writes Melody Simmons for the Philadelphia Business Journal.

The acquisition, announced this week, gives Hord Coplan Macht a solid entry into the Philadelphia market—along with expanded reach into Pittsburgh, Lancaster, and State College. Schradergroup, founded in 2004 and based at the Spring Mill Campus on East North Lane, brings a strong track record in designing schools and public safety buildings across Pennsylvania.

“By joining [Hord Coplan Macht], we can offer our clients greater horsepower, more robust resources, an expanded portfolio of services, and a national presence,” said Schradergroup Managing Partner David Schrader.

The deal, which took two years to finalize, reflects both firms’ shared values and growth mindset, according to Hord Coplan Macht CEO Tim Barnhill. It also supports a growing trend of mergers in the architecture and planning space.

Hord Coplan Macht, which had just 46 employees in 2004, now boasts more than 400 team members and locations in Baltimore, Denver, Charlotte, Alexandria, and Hilton Head.

With the addition of Schradergroup’s 40-person team, the firm aims to compete nationally in education and public safety design.
