Narberth Mayoral Race Clears for Dana Edwards After Heated Endorsement Battle

Dana Edwards becomes Narberth’s likely next mayor after Rebecca Starr exits the race, citing campaign negativity.

Narberth’s next mayoral race just got a lot quieter, writes Katie Bernard for the Philadelphia Inquirer.

Dana Edwards, a local business insurance executive, is now the likely winner after his opponent, attorney Rebecca Starr, exited the race last week, citing a toxic tone.

With no Republicans on the ballot and no independents (yet) in sight, Edwards is currently unopposed.

The drama peaked last month when Narberth’s six Democratic committee members voted 4-2 to endorse Edwards over Starr. The endorsement meeting, posted on YouTube, featured heated back-and-forth over whether the party should even back a candidate this year due to rising tensions.

On March 26, Starr announced her withdrawal in a Facebook post, saying she was disheartened by the “vitriol” in the campaign. In a letter to voters, she added, “I want us all to live… in a borough where honesty, fairness, and community spirit prevail.”

Edwards, when asked about Starr’s comments, said he couldn’t speak to her experience but thanked her for her service.

Jeff Scott, chair of the local Democratic committee, aims for unity in town. “I hope that the folks in Narberth come together behind our endorsed candidate and move forward,” he said.
