Governor Josh Shapiro continues to champion Pennsylvania’s agricultural future with a nearly $12 million investment to preserve 3,187 acres across 29 farms in 17 counties — including three right here in Montco.
Through the state’s Farmland Preservation Program, farms in Lower and Upper Frederick Townships will remain protected from development, ensuring that 143 acres of prime land stay in agricultural use forever. The state and Montgomery County jointly contributed over $1.28 million toward the effort, supporting operations ranging from crop farming to equine care.
Since the start of his administration, Abington’s Shapiro has preserved 380 farms and over 32,500 acres across the Commonwealth. His proposed 2025-26 budget includes further investments in agricultural innovation, sustainability, and food security — including $13 million for the oversubscribed Ag Innovation Grant and increased funding for food surplus and diagnostic lab services.
With agriculture supporting nearly 600,000 jobs and contributing $132.5 billion to the state’s economy, protecting farmland is both a nod to Pennsylvania’s heritage and a strategic investment in its future.
Montgomery County’s participation reaffirms its role in leading the way on sustainability and food resilience — with local farmers directly benefiting from statewide partnerships and smart budgeting.
