Geno Auriemma’s Legacy Grows as the Gold Standard in NCAA Excellence

Norristown's Geno Auriemma wins his 12th NCAA title with UConn, capping 40 years of dominance, reminding fans why of greatness.

Norristown legend Geno Auriemma has done it again—securing his 12th NCAA women’s basketball championship as head coach of the UConn Huskies, writes Robby Kalland for CBS Sports.

After an eight-year title drought, Auriemma’s squad delivered a commanding 82-59 victory over South Carolina in the 2025 national championship game, reminding everyone why he’s one of the greatest coaches in any sport, at any level.

Auriemma, who’s been leading the Huskies for 40 years, has built a dynasty that now boasts 12 titles, 1,250 wins, and an incredible .883 win percentage. He’s guided UConn to the Final Four 24 times and hasn’t missed an NCAA Tournament since 1989. Oh, and he’s coached six undefeated championship teams.

As the confetti settles, UConn’s future still looks bright. While star Paige Bueckers heads to the WNBA—likely as the No. 1 pick—Azzi Fudd will return, and freshman phenom Sarah Strong is ready to shine.

At 71, Auriemma isn’t slowing down. With a contract running through 2029, the Hall of Famer still has plenty left in the tank—and Montgomery County couldn’t be prouder of its hometown hero.

From Norristown to national glory, Geno Auriemma continues to raise the bar for excellence in sports.
