Fusion Gym Project at Former Macy’s in Neshaminy Mall Canceled

A plan to transform the shuttered Macy's at Neshaminy Mall in Bensalem – a space vacant since 2017 – into a Fusion Gym falls through.

A plan to transform the shuttered Macy’s at Neshaminy Mall in Bensalem into a Fusion Gym has fallen through, writes JD Mullane for the Bucks County Courier Times.

Fusion Gyms founder Tony Chowdhury scrapped the plan after permitting hurdles. Instead, he opened another Fusion Gym in Warminster, marking his second location in Bucks County.

“They were making it a nightmare for us,” said a Fusion employee.

The permit issue was confirmed by Bensalem Mayor Joseph DiGirolamo.

“He did start a lot of work (at Macy’s) with no permits,” said DiGirolamo. “We were waiting for him to pick up his approved permits, (but he) never did.”

Chowdhury first expressed interest in transforming the former Macy’s space into an indoor-outdoor state-of-the-art gym and entertainment center in December 2023. It would feature a restaurant, boxing rings, pool, twenty pickleball courts, and a nine-hole golf course.

“It’s gonna give it a big shot in the arm,” said Chowdhury at the time, meaning the 200,000-square-foot former store at the mall.

Macy’s moved out of the space in 2017. The property was sold the following year but has not been fully redeveloped since Tony Chowdhury acquired it.
