Following Devastating Fire, Narberth Community Theatre Triumphantly Returns to Stage

After fire destroyed its performance space over a year ago, the Narberth Community Theatre returns to the stage in Mt. Airy.

After fire destroyed its performance space, props, and costumes at Overbrook Presbyterian Church over a year ago, Narberth Community Theatre had its triumphant return to the stage at the Circus Campus in Mt. Airy on Sunday, writes Alex George for FOX 29 Philadelphia.

Months of hard work following the tragedy culminated in the new production of Into the Woods.

The fire, which destroyed the 136-year-old church in January 2024, left parishioners and organizations like Narberth Community Theatre without a home.

“We walked in for rehearsal, and smoke just billowed out of the building, and there were no alarms going off or anything,” said Isadora Lyons, a board member of NCT.

At the time, the troupe had just begun rehearsing for the play. Although the production was originally set to premiere in the spring 2024, the group is grateful to return to the stage a year later with it.

“So many people use the theater,” said Lyons. “You know, it’s a community. It helps us escape from our everyday lives. It’s family, it’s friends, and without a place to come together, it’s like a hole.”
