With spring approaching, those planning home design projects may want to explore the clever custom furniture from Harleysville-based Olive & Melon Design, writes Kristin Detterline for the Philadelphia Magazine.
Interior designer Mel McDaniel and furniture maker Olivia Gorman decided they wanted to collaborate in 2022, after Gorman had joined McDaniel’s nonprofit Marvin’s Home, that was founded to help young adults aging out of foster care to furnish their new homes.
They already knew they shared a commitment to giving back to the community. So they decided to join forces and chart a new course for McDaniel’s other passion, the eponymous design firm she started in 2006, which they renamed to Olive & Melon Design.
The duo likes to bring a nature-inspired approach to all of their projects, along with custom furniture pieces and made-to-order items from their Frame Shop by Olive & Melon in Skippack.
The pair are marking the first anniversary of their shop with a new collection of custom frames that will be available in March.
They will mark another important milestone in 2025, when the nonprofit is set to furnish its 100th residence.
