Delaware County Parties Name Endorsed Candidates for Primary

Democratic and Republican leaders have announced Delaware County's endorsed Primary candidates for the May 20 election.

Democratic and Republican leaders have announced their endorsed Primary candidates for county-level positions in the May 20 Pennsylvania Primary Election, writes Kathleen E. Carey for the Daily Times.

The Democratic slate of unopposed candidates includes Joanne Phillips of Middletown and incumbent Richard Womack of Darby Township for county council and Mike Power of Thornbury and Jack Stollsteimer of Haverford for Court of Common Pleas judges;

Phillips is currently county controller and Stollsteimer is county district attorney.

The Delaware County Republican Party endorsed former Upper Darby Township Councilman Brian Burke and Chester Upland School Board member Tasliym Morales for the two county council positions, along with Frank Zarrilli for Court of Common Pleas.

Morales has since withdrawn her candidacy, replaced by Liz Piazza, a former 165th state legislative district candidate and a former county employee.

Republican Charlie Alexander of Broomall is running unendorsed for county council.

Frank Agovino, chairman of the Delaware County Republican Party thinks the time is good for Republicans to get back on to the all-Democrat county council.

“If the county is not run well and taxes are high, it’s not a good thing. I think people are concerned about their future,” he said.
