Hotels in Center City gained a significant boost from the Philadelphia Eagles’ Super Bowl run during what is typically a slow period, writes Michael Tanenbaum for PhillyVoice.
The Eagles’ Super Bowl parade brought occupancy to 90 percent, gaining an additional $4.3 million in revenue for the hospitality industry over that weekend, which coincided with Valentine’s Day.
The economic boon was welcomed by industry leaders, who had braced for the usual downturn in room bookings in Center City during late winter.
“This has been great for Philadelphia hotels because normally February is not exactly our busiest time,” said Ed Grose, executive director of the Greater Philadelphia Hotel Association.
Compared to the same weekend in 2024, bookings in Center City surged by an impressive 71 percent, with an additional 11,089 rooms sold between February 13 and February 15. Overall hotel occupancy in the city rose 37 percent year over year, while revenue increased by 164 percent, not adjusting for inflation. Last year, Valentine’s Day fell on a Wednesday.
The Eagles’ three-week home playoff stretch in January also boosted Center City hotels, contributing an extra $2.4 million in revenue, 37 percent up from the previous year.
