After over 40 years in their Bryn Mawr home, a couple sought a transformation blending modern style with traditional charm, writes Elle Smith Dallabrida for Main Line Today.
Their vision: a space to showcase their extensive art collection, accommodate family, and honor the home’s history. For this ambitious project, they turned to Marc-Michaels Interior Design and Villanova’s Janiczek Homes.
The redesign focused on preserving the home’s character while introducing contemporary elements. In the foyer, the original paneling was complemented by new iron balusters and intricate hand-cut tile flooring. Founder and CEO Mark Janiczek says that the puzzle-like pattern speaks to the details of the renovation.
The formal living room became a larger dining area, perfect for gatherings, while the former dining room transformed into an elegant sitting space. A bold blue ceiling enhances the original Gracie wallpaper, echoing birds in the design.
In the kitchen, dark cabinets gave way to white custom cabinetry and a metal range hood. The space opened to the family room, creating a warm, inviting atmosphere for togetherness.
Throughout the home, expert millwork offers hidden storage, blending function with artistry. The primary bathroom exudes luxury, featuring a large soaking tub against a mosaic tile wall—a testament to the home’s blend of timeless elegance and modern flair.
