The Lower Merion School District is among those that have been impacted by a nationwide breach of the education software PowerSchool, according to a staff report from KYW Newsradio.
The school software giant, which offers a suite of tools to streamline school operations, recently announced it had suffered a “cybersecurity incident” late last month. The result of this breach was that the personal information of students and teachers from its client districts got stolen. The information that was compromised includes the names, addresses, and health information from both current as well as former students and employees.
Due to the widespread reach of PowerSchool, which serves more than 60 million students and teachers around the world, school districts both within the country and worldwide were affected by the breach. In Pennsylvania, the Oxford Area School District in Southern Chester County was also among those that were impacted.
The school software company has said that it will provide identity theft and credit monitoring services to people whose information got leaked.
The Lower Merion School District is also looking into the breach through its own cybersecurity contractor.
