Lew Hansen, a retired Navy veteran, Comcast technical operations supervisor, and flag ambassador for Operation Old Glory replaces worn U.S. flags across Bucks County, writes Michele Haddon for Philly Burbs.

Operation Old Glory, launched by Comcast’s Veterans Network Employee Resource Group in 2017, began in Delaware and has expanded nationwide. It empowers Comcast employees, many of whom are veterans, to replace worn or damaged flags on homes and businesses, regardless of customer status. The program sources flags from a veteran-owned business. They also ensure the old flags are folded in the 13 Folds tradition before being retired with dignity.

Hansen sees this work as an extension of his service, providing meaningful connections with fellow veterans and patriotic community members. He’s met elderly homeowners whose families served in the military but couldn’t replace their own flags. The pride and gratitude shown by those he helps reaffirm his commitment to the mission.

On a recent Friday, Hansen and fellow ambassador Chris Snyder replaced a flag in Sellersville for Frank Moyer, a retired U.S. Army National Guard Reserves staff sergeant. Moyer expressed deep appreciation, noting that such acts of support embody integrity and honor. Since its inception, Operation Old Glory has replaced thousands of flags nationwide, demonstrating Comcast’s commitment to community and country.
