Kat Dennings Adds Bryn Mawr Flavor to ABC’s Midseason Lineup
ABC will bring local talent to the midseason lineup, as Bryn Mawr’s Kat Dennings stars alongside Tim Allen in “Shifting Gears,” reports Chris Compendio for the Philly Voice.
The show debuts Wednesday, Jan. 8 at 8 p.m., moving “Abbott Elementary” to a new 8:30 p.m. time slot.
Dennings, who also serves as a producer for “Shifting Gears”, plays Riley, the estranged daughter of Allen’s character. Allen plays Matt who owns a car restoration shop. When Riley and her teenage kids move in, father and daughter navigate mending their relationship. The cast also features Seann William Scott as Gabriel, a family friend and employee, and Daryl “Chill” Mitchell as Stitch, a former Marine and shop mechanic.
The series marks a return to multi-camera comedy for Dennings, known for her roles in “2 Broke Girls” and “Dollface,” and for Allen, of “Home Improvement” and “Last Man Standing” fame.
Michelle Nader, Kat Dennings’ collaborator from her previous shows, stepped in as showrunner in September.
Following the “Shifting Gears” premiere, fans can catch an “Abbott Elementary” crossover episode with “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia,” starring local favorite Quinta Brunson. The crossover marks the start of a two-part special, concluding on FXX during Season 17 of “It’s Always Sunny.”
