CCRES announced Chesney Humphrey was one of several recent recipients of a scholarship from its Dr. Michael J. Kelly Pathways Scholarships Program.

A June 2024 graduate of Henderson High School, Humphrey is pursuing her Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education and Special Education at Bloomsburg University.

The scholarship program was created in 2023, awarding grants to qualifying students, enabling them to attend post-secondary educational institutions, including career and technical schools.

While the awards can apply to traditional colleges and universities, they also can fund attendance at trade schools such as licensed practical nursing, cosmetology, construction and technology programs. 

Awards can also pay for certification exams, special fees or tools and equipment associated with a student’s course work or academic program.

Several scholarships were given out in the past few weeks.

Humphrey graduated with a 4.1438 GPA and has participated in many clubs and organizations in the past four years.

She was a member of the marching band’s color guard for three years and served as captain for two years and drum major for one year.

In addition, she participated in indoor winter color guard for three years and served as captain for two years. 

Humphrey is a member of the National Honor Society and German National Honor Society.

She is a Girl Scout who believes in giving back to the community. She earned her Silver Award creating a musical sensory box for the Chester County Head Start Program.

Humphrey is a member of her church’s youth group. She works for Garrett Williamson part time as a teacher’s aide, assistant and summer camp counselor. These qualities earned her one of the West Chester Spellman Humanitarian Awards.

Humphrey was chosen for the Dr. Michael J. Kelly Pathways Scholarship for her hard work and dedication to the educational field.

Several years during high school she participated in the career pathway summer programs at the Technical College High School campuses.  During this time, she evolved as a leader amongst her peers.  She would often assist younger students and allow them to “shadow” her in tasks and group projects that she was leading. 

She is an effective ambassador for CCIU career and technical education programs.  Very poised and professional, she will be an outstanding early childhood special education program professional some day.
