Montgomery County Senior Softball League Celebrates Friendly Competition, Love of Game

Since it was founded 26 years ago, the Montgomery County Senior Softball League has proven to be a huge hit among local fans of the game.

The Montgomery County Senior Softball League is entering its 26th year of celebrating friendly competition and a love of the game, writes Michael Bradley for the Main Line Today.

The league has 14 teams with over 130 players ranging in age from 60 to 92. Games take place several times a week from April through mid-October. The league’s motto is simple: “If you had fun, you won.”

The league also has a philanthropic component and has donated $21,150 to charitable organizations since 2015. Last year, the players raised $5,200 through various initiatives for the Variety Club.

“We’re fortunate to go out at our age and still have some skills left,” said Thomas Levins, who presides over the league. “We keep score during the games, and people know who won and lost, but we have no stats and no standings.”

The league has two divisions, one of which is made up of better players who are a bit more competitive. However, both approach softball from the same position: enjoy the sport and minimize any potential injury.
