Kindred Podcast: Bryn Athyn Sisters Dive Deep Into Nature and Conservation

Kindred Podcast, hosted by two Bryn Athyn sisters Jenn Asplundh and Kate Coffin, explores the relationship between humans and nature.

The Kindred Podcast, hosted by Bryn Athyn sisters Jenn Asplundh and Kate Coffin is a worthwhile listen that explores the relationship between humans and nature, writes Courtney Duchene for the Philadelphia Citizen.

Now in its seventh season, Kindred features experts like marine biologist Hanne Strager, conservationist Sloane Hawes, and adventurer Melanie Vogel. The podcast seeks to inspire listeners to reconsider their environmental impact, a crucial message as 40 percent of species face extinction by the end of the century.

Coffin conceived the idea for Kindred during the pandemic, when she noticed nature’s rapid recovery as human activity slowed. With a background in veterinary care, she wanted to give voice to environmental awareness. Asplundh, though less involved in nature initially, joined the podcast after Coffin persuaded her to co-host.

The show features in-depth conversations with scientists and naturalists on topics ranging from wildlife conservation to the importance of reconnecting with nature. Locally, they’ve spoken with leaders from the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society and Stroud Water Research Center.

With over 10,500 listens, Kindred aims to shift the narrative around human relationships with nature, encouraging a more horizontal, kin-like bond with the natural world. Through their discussions, Coffin and Asplundh hope to inspire positive change for the environment and mental health alike.
