The University of Pennsylvania ranks among the top schools in the world for producing founders, writes Ryan Mulligan for PHL Inno.
The ranking is from new data by Pitchbook, which ranks the top schools globally by the number of founders they have produced and how much funding they go on to raise.
The list is broken down by undergraduate, graduate, and MBA programs, in which Penn ranked towards the top in all three categories.
The University City Ivy League school ranked No. 4, No. 6, and No. 3 in those three categories, respectively.
Penn was one of only three institutions to take spots in the top six in all three categories, joining Stanford University and Harvard University.
According to Pitchbook, Penn graduates have raised $147.7 billion in total. The breakdown is 1,197 undergraduates who raised $52.9 billion; 1,740 graduate program alums raised $54.6 billion; and 1,147 MBAs have raised $40.2 billion.
Penn’s ranking for the number of graduate alums who have gone on to launch startups jumped nine spots from last year.
Penn is also one of the top schools for producing female founders. In total, the university has produced 596 female founders who have gone on to raise a combined $12.2 billion.
