The Grand Theater in East Greenville, PA celebrates its 100th anniversary reports Michelle Kane for the Patch.
The historical theater is known for its single-screen cinema and meticulous restoration offering patrons a step through time. It is one of only a few like theaters still in operation.
To mark the occasion, the theater will host a weekend of special events from Friday, October 4 through Sunday, October 6. The weekend includes classic films, live organ performances, and a historical exhibit highlighting the theater’s role in Upper Perkiomen Valley’s cultural history.
Owner Ed Buchinski was responsible for restoring the theater to its original glory. “The theater’s restoration has been a journey,” he said. “The Grand Theater is a true rarity in today’s world.” It is one of only three locations in the world with a two-console Theater Organ.
Featured movies for the Centennial weekend include Buster Keaton’s “Three Ages,” “Ghostbusters,” and “Nosferatu.”
The historical exhibit will be open between 5 PM and 7 PM on Friday along with a champagne toast. Organ preludes are provided prior to film screenings.Read more about the historic Grand Theater in East Greenville at the Patch.
