Phillies Fan of Seven Decades: Freda Schopfer Thinks this Team is Special
Freda Schopfer, an 89-year-old former Upper Moreland middle school teacher and Bucks County resident, has been a fan of the Philadelphia Phillies for over seven decades, writes Dave Uram for KYW Newsradio.
Throughout those years, she has seen a lot of baseball. Some of it bad, some good, and some great, like in 1980 and 2008. But this year’s team holds a special place in her heart.
“I think probably I feel closest to this team than I have for any other team in my past,” said Schopfer.
Schopfer, who owns a women’s fitness center, believes her fondness for the 2024 team stems from all the players being wonderful people and making her feel like part of their family. She credits the media for connecting her to the team.
“She just loves I think that camaraderie and that just feeling of like a family and that everybody just supports each other,” said her daughter Marianne Lanzetta.
Schopfer believes that her favorite team can go all the way this year. But whatever happens, she will be there to support them.
Being a fan is “part of your heart and that’s where it all is.”
