Souderton’s new art gallery, Eye Curious Atelier, celebrated its grand opening with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Thursday, Sept. 19, reports John Worthington for The Reporter.
Located at 9 N. Main Street in Souderton, the gallery is owned by Kenoka Wagner, a lifelong artist from Perkasie. Wagner, who previously ran a larger gallery in Ottsville, decided to downsize after the COVID-19 pandemic to focus more on creating art rather than managing paperwork.
“I realized I was working too hard and doing more paperwork than artwork,” Wagner said. “So this is me simplifying my life—less paperwork, more art.”
Wagner, the son of an artist, has been passionate about art from a young age. Primarily self-taught, he describes himself as an “exploratory artist,” always seeking new challenges and techniques.
Eye Curious Atelier spans two floors, showcasing Wagner’s work and serving as his workspace. He aims to share his techniques with the community and eventually feature other local artists. Wagner also hopes to teach art, especially inspired by children’s uninhibited approach to creativity.
“I learn more from (kids) because they’re so free and don’t have preconceived ideas about how art is made,” he said.
Wagner is excited to be part of Souderton’s growing downtown and the town’s revitalization efforts. He feels supported by the community and is optimistic about the new location.
Eye Curious Atelier is open on Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
