Some enthusiastic participants on bikes in the first Conshy Classic Bike Race held Sunday to raise awareness for children’s heart health.

Conshohocken held its first-ever Conshy Classic Bike Race. last Sunday hosted by Simon’s Heart, reports Nick Iadonisi for 6ABC.

Traffic diverted off of Fayette Street over the weekend to accommodate the inaugural event.

The race was created to raise awareness for children’s heart health.

Simon’s Heart was an organization started by Phyllis and Darren Sudman, after their infant son, Simon died of sudden cardiac arrest. Their goal is to teach people about heart health, and what to do in a cardiac emergency.

“We do free heart screenings in the community, we place AEDs where kids learn and play, and we also teach CPR,” said Simon’s Heart Executive Director Jenn Parrado.

The bike race hosted professional cyclists as well as a free children’s race and a community ride for casual riders. Conshohocken has an active cycling community with a bike trail that rides along the Schuylkill River.

Local businesses set up tents along the street to service attendees including Conshohocken Brewing Company which has a longstanding history serving the local cycling community.
