There’s a special class for fourth graders centered around 3D printing at Germantown Academy reports the academy’s website. Steam Studio is an interactive workshop held by the school’s STEAM coordinator Jess Grisafi, and teacher Troy Holiday.

The workshop on 3D printing at Germantown Academy teaches the students about Computer Aided Design (CAD) and instructs them how to render projects with the MakerBot 3D Printers. Students create their own .STL designs using the TinkerCad App.

Grisafi intends to teach the students the fundamentals of 3D printing so that they can apply the knowledge to future projects within their curriculum.

“Utilizing the 3D printer as just another tool or material choice to bring a concept to life allows for students to see themselves as inventors,” she said.

3D printing is an ever-evolving technology. Houses, clothing, food, and even living tissue are crafted using 3D printers.

Grisafi hopes that the STEAM studio will inspire the students to consider how they could use technology to impact the world in a significant way.
