A new true crime documentary, “The Godfather of Fentanyl,” is filming in Doylestown this week, according to executive producer Steph Burns, writes Jess Rohan for the Bucks County Courier Times.

The four-part series, set to stream next month, is shooting at Chambers 19 Bistro & Bar on Main Street. About 25 locals are participating as extras in the production.

“The Godfather of Fentanyl” chronicles the story of George Marquardt, a self-taught chemist and illicit drug maker, who was the sole source of illegal fentanyl in the U.S. before his 1993 arrest.

Though Doylestown has no direct connection to the story, the filming has become a local event.

The filming at Chambers 19 reenacts a key moment in the investigation when a dealer inadvertently provided a crucial tip to an undercover DEA agent.

Several extras are neighborhood residents, including Wendy Stone, who helped design jackets for the DEA agents in the scene.

Others, like Nancy Dickson and Katie Spillane, enjoyed the nostalgic wardrobe and the chance to be part of the shoot.

The series, produced by Steven Rotfeld Productions, will also film at a New Britain funeral home on Wednesday.

“The Godfather of Fentanyl” will premiere on an unspecified streaming service in August.
