Montco’s Famous Duo Hall & Oates Returning to Philadelphia Area – But Separately
Hall & Oates, one of the most famous duos from Montgomery County, are returning to the Philadelphia area, but not together, writes Victor Fiorillo for Philadelphia Magazine.
In the 1980s, Hall and Oates enjoyed a massively successful musical marriage with hits such as “Maneater” and “Private Eyes.” But four decades later, their relationship is on the rocks.
This month, Daryl Hall, who grew up near Pottstown, will play at the Mann Center on his own. Next month, North Wales native John Oates will do his solo routine at the Cape May Convention Hall, followed by the headlining slot of the Philadelphia Folk Festival.
While they did solo tours and albums before, the pair also toured together at the same time, as recently as two years ago.
At the end of 2022, after decades of their personalities clashing, they started talking about dissolving their partnership.
However, things turned sour when Oates sold his share of their partnership to an investment firm without notifying Hall. Hall sued Oates, saying that he had no right to do that without his permission and accusing Oates of committing the “ultimate partnership betrayal.”
The lawsuit is ongoing.
