Valley Forge Tourism & Convention Board shares ways to observe and celebrate Juneteenth in Montgomery County this June.

As Montgomery County honors and celebrates Juneteenth, a national holiday celebrating the emancipation of those who had been enslaved in the southern United States, Valley Forge Tourism & Convention Board invites all to participate in the surrounding observation and celebrations.

Juneteenth Flag Raising Ceremony

Where: Montgomery County Courthouse, Norristown 

When: Jun. 18, 10-11:00 AM

To observe Juneteenth celebrations, the Montgomery County Courthouse will hold a special ceremony to raise the official Juneteenth flag. 

Music of the Underground Railroad

Where: Pennypacker Mills, Schwenksville

When: Jun. 8, 4:00 PM

Celebrate Juneteenth with Musician and Historian Joe Becton. Becton will share the music and stories of the Underground Railroad’s fight against slavery. Experience a range of musical traditions from “Hambone” to “John Brown’s Body,” each one telling the story of the Underground Railroad’s transportation and secret routes, political manipulations, and the war that ended slavery in America.

This event will take place on the mansion porch at Pennypacker Mills. Attendees are advised to bring a chair or blanket to sit on.

Juneteenth Celebration: Kids Story Time

Where: Pottsgrove Manor, Pottstown 

When: Jun. 14, 11:00 AM

Celebrate Juneteenth at Pottsgrove Manor with a special storytime. Join the museum in exploring black history in America, featuring the fascinating stories of remarkable people who made significant contributions in shaping history.

Juneteenth Jubilee Street Festival

Where: Norristown

When: Jun. 19, 12-6:00 PM

Norristown’s Juneteenth Jubilee is where you’ll want to be on Jun. 19. Festivities will include live entertainment, vendors, food and drinks, an art show, a kids zone, a living history reenactment at Center Theater, and more. 

Pottstown Juneteenth Community Celebration

Where: Pottstown

When: Sat. Jun. 15, 11 AM- 6:00 PM

Enjoy music, basketball, face painting, dance, and storytelling. Explore black history exhibits, admire motorcycles and cars, and join in kids’ activities. Special guests and vendors will be there too. Celebrate freedom and community together this June.

Juneteenth Tours at the Peter Wentz Farmstead 

Where: Peter Wentz Farmstead

When: Jun. 15, 10:00 AM- 4:00 PM

Celebrate Juneteenth at the Peter Wentz Farmstead. Join special tours focusing on the lives of enslaved individuals connected to the Wentz family and Pennsylvania’s history of slavery. Learn about escape attempts, and hear stories of Hannah Till and William Lee, brought here with General George Washington. Register for free timed tickets, recommended for visitors 13 and older.
