Longwood Gardens, one of the premier horticultural display gardens in the United States and one of the top ten tourist attractions in the Delaware Valley, has always been a favorite spot for photographers, capturing the vibrant beauty and serene landscapes.

However, with increasing popularity, Longwood has updated its photography policy to ensure a pleasant experience for all visitors.

Starting on March 1, 2025, Longwood Gardens will implement a new policy for special occasions and contracted photography.

Photographers will need to purchase a permit, which will be required for specific days and times. This move aims to manage the number of photo sessions and maintain the Gardens’ tranquil atmosphere.

Key aspects of the new policy include:

• A permit system for scheduling photo sessions must be arranged in advance.
• Permit prices start at $250, varying based on the number of guests, and covers only the photographer’s admission. Other visitors involved in the session will need to purchase separate Gardens Admission tickets.
• Photography will be restricted to outdoor areas only, ensuring that the indoor spaces remain undisturbed for other guests.
• The policy also details what is not allowed, such as large-scale equipment, props, signs, wardrobe changes, and external flowers, to protect the Gardens’ environment and visitor experience.

Before this policy takes effect, there will be a transition period. Until September 30, 2024, photography is permitted outdoors only.

From October 1, 2024, to February 28, 2025, Longwood will not permit any photo sessions as they prepare for the new system.

Longwood Gardens hopes this structured approach helps balance accessibility for photographers while preserving the quality of visitation for the 1.5 million people visiting the Kennett Square gardens annually.
