Once a History Major, Glenside Native Realizes Priesthood Is Right Vocation for Him
Transitional Deacon Brendan Zehner, a Glenside native and a parishioner at Saint Luke the Evangelist Church, did not even consider becoming a priest until his senior year of college, writes Gia Myers for the Catholic Philly.
“I was pretty lapsed in the faith,” he said. “But fortunately, I had some really good friends and teachers who helped guide me back in the right direction.”
Zehner was ordained a priest for the Archdiocese of Philadelphia on May 18 at the Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul in Philadelphia.
Zehner attended Ancillae-Assumpta Academy in Wyncote for grade school and then Saint Joseph’s Preparatory School for high school.
During his senior year as a history major at William and Mary College in Williamsburg, he once again became serious about his faith.
He spoke to his priest during a visit home, and realized that the idea of priesthood filled him with “a lot of joy and peace,” he recalled.
For the next two years, he was working at Wawa and discerning his call. In the fall of 2017, he entered the Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary in Wynnewood.
He was officially ordained as a Transitional Deacon last year by Archbishop Nelson Perez.
