Bryn Mawr Teen Trumpet Player Earns Spot in 2024 National Youth Orchestra

Aidan Peterson, a Shipley School senior and soon-to-be Juilliard School student, will perform as part of the National Youth Orchestra.

Aidan Peterson is a graduating senior at The Shipley School in Bryn Mawr who will start college at The Juilliard School this fall, reports Matteo Iadonisi for 6abc.

The 18-year-old is also one of just eight musicians from Eastern Pennsylvania and Delaware who have landed a spot with the 2024 National Youth Orchestra. Peterson will play the trumpet in the NYO-USA ensemble.

Aidan Peterson was five when he received a trumpet as a Christmas gift.

“Ever since then, I’ve been hooked,” said the musician. “I made one little sound and ever since then I’ve been trying to perfect it even more and more.”

He started playing with a high school band and orchestra in third grade.

“In eighth grade, I began my journey at Julliard in the preparatory division,” said Peterson. “From here, I will be attending college there as well.”

For the teen, music is about sharing it with others rather than being perfect at what he does. He has showcased this by serving as a volunteer bugle at hundreds of military funerals since 2015.
