New Head Coach at Shipley School Receives Pivotal Wake-up Call
T.J. Ferrick, the new head coach of the boys’ basketball team at The Shipley School in Bryn Mawr, credits an important wake-up call for helping him realize that full-time coaching was his dream job, writes Joseph Santoliquito for City of Basketball Love.
Ferrick was an English teacher and junior varsity basketball coach at Penn Charter back in May of 2018 when he had a pivotal conversation with Darryl J. Ford, head of Penn Charter.
At the time coaching was a seasonal thing and he was on the fence about committing to it full-time. Then Ford asked him, “What’s the next 30 years look like for you?”
The question hit him unexpectedly. He realized that he just wanted to coach basketball. It was the first time he admitted this, and he has been working toward that dream since.
Now this coming season at Shipley, Ferrick will be a head coach for the first time. He is taking over a boys’ basketball program that finished 13-14 overall last season.
