Campbell Soup Heir’s Former Estate in Gladwyne To Sell At Auction
Linden Hill, the former home of Campbell Soup heirs for nearly 50 years, will be heading to auction in May, writes Lauren Peacock for Mansion Global.
The French Norman-style stone mansion, which spans some 14,467 square feet and is accompanied by 26.3 acres, is being sold by Robert Burch, a venture capitalist.
“We are really hoping to find someone that can fall in love with this property the way we have,” said Burch.
The home was built by architect Edmund G. Gilchrist between 1928 to 1931 for stockbroker Rodman Ellison Griscom.
Chemist John T. Dorrance — who discovered how to condense soup at a commercial scale — and his family purchased the property in the 1950s and remained there until the mid-1990s.
Across the entire property, there are 19 bedrooms, 15 bathrooms, two partial bathrooms, and a detached guest house with two bedrooms.
Outdoor amenities include two pools, a tennis court, decorative gardens, and grounds to grow vegetables or flowers.
The auction will run online on May 20-21, 2024. The Linden Hill Court will be offered with a starting bid of $1.5 million, and the Linden Hill Estate will be offered with a starting bid of $2 million. There is a $100,000 bidder deposit required.
