Haverford College has set a $1 billion goal for its endowment as it moves forward with its plans for both its short-term and long-term future.

Haverford College President Wendy Raymond is making fundraising a priority as the college moves forward with its strategic, and in-the-works campus plan, writes Ryan Mulligan for the Philadelphia Business Journal

To this end, Raymond has set a $1 billion goal for the school’s endowment, which would entail about a 50 percent increase in the school’s endowment.

As of the most recent fiscal year on June 30, 2023, Haverford’s endowment sits at $643.2 million.

Raymond hopes to have the fundraising pledges hit the $1 billion goal by 2030, as by then it may be wrapping up its strategic plan — Haverford 2030 — and could also be in the midst of a larger transformation of its 200-acre physical campus.

A formal fundraising campaign is likely to accompany its strategic plan as efforts take shape to reach the $1 billion mark.

Raymond said the endowment increase target will be focused on financial aid and faculty excellence.

“Haverford 2030 seeks to grow our endowment so that we can continue to operate with this level of outstanding students, faculty and staff in perpetuity,” she said. “We as a community clearly came to the conclusion that we need to build the endowment.”
