A student from East Norriton named Mikayla has been recognized as a ‘Star Student’ by the Patch, according to Justin Heinze.

Mikayla commutes 45 minutes a day to attend a Main Line school. The exceptional eighth grader has a knack for languages, picking up Spanish in early middle school and excels in French and Latin.

Her language skills extend beyond the classroom and onto the stage where she glows as an actress. She’s played Gaston in “Beauty and the Beast” and played three characters at once in the play “One Act.”

Mikayla’s passion for theater has been passed down to younger students through her own club. She’s a member of Brown Girls Believe and has been a Girl Scout for five years.

With her status as a cadette, she is collaborating with a partner to recycle cookie cases into scratch boards for cats at a no-kill animal shelter, where she once volunteered with family.

Mikayla has volunteered for Feed My Starving Children, Caring for Friends, Integrate for Good, and Sebastian Riding Association. In addition to being altruistic, Mikayla is also athletic, as a new player on the AAU basketball team in Norristown and plays softball.

Mikayla has overcome many hurdles throughout her middle school career but her persistence has paid off.
