West Chester’s open-air market will return this year, closing off four blocks of Gay Street every weekend, writes Justin Heinze for Patch.

From Friday, May 3 to Sunday, Sept. 29, blocks from Matlack to Darlington Streets will be closed from Friday mornings to Monday mornings.

The closure brings together local businesses, restaurants, residents, and visitors to enjoy a free and safe space for strolling and eating. Many restaurants along Gay Street set up outdoor dining while small businesses put out racks or tables to sell their items easier.

As crowded as West Chester can get when the weather is nice, this is the perfect opportunity for anyone — especially families with strollers or those walking dogs — to be out and about without the traffic.

In addition to outdoor dining, live music, events, and games are often available. Details for the specific events will be announced closer to the market’s opening.
