Pennsylvania has played a major role in many key moments in this country’s history and many influential persons have been born or laid to rest here, writes Ashley Adams for The Keystone.

The Keystone State is the final resting place for many famous women, including a woman many consider the world’s first supermodel.

American model Gia Marie Carangi is buried at Sunset Memorial Park in Huntingdon Valley.

She was featured on the cover of Vogue and Cosmopolitan and appeared in advertising campaigns for Armani, Dior, Versace, and other luxury fashion houses.

Not far from Montgomery County, Singer Joni Sledge is laid to rest at Ivy Cemetery in Philadelphia. She was the founding member of Sister Sledge.

Singer Marian Anderson, the first Black American to perform at New York’s Metropolitan Opera is buried at Eden Cemetery in Collingdale, Delaware County.

Bucks County’s Green Hills Farm Grounds is the final resting place of Pearl S. Buck, a Nobel Prize-winning author from the 1930s.
