Following Success of His Past Two Restaurants, Speer Madanat Gears Up to Open Ice Cream West Chester
Coatesville Native Speer Madanat, the chef and owner of the popular Pizza West Chester and Steaks West Chester food joints is moving onto ice cream, writes Michael Klein for The Philadelphia Inquirer.
Madanat has signed a lease at 14 N. Church Street, the former Juice Pod building, which is three blocks away from his pizzeria. Currently, as he plans for the opening of Ice Cream West Chester, Madanat is testing different recipes.
Ice Cream West Chester is anticipated to open in May, just in time for the warm weather.
“We have two gelato spots in town — Gemelli and D’Ascenzo’s — which are phenomenal,” Madanat said. Ice Cream West Chester is set to feature soft serve and custard, as well as shakes and sundaes.
Madanat is a long-standing resident of Chester County and first ventured into the restaurant world in 1996. His first West Chester store, a quirky pizzeria that had unusual hours and a pizza-only menu, became a hit with customers. With no phone or website, the pizzeria relied heavily on its relationships with its guests. Steaks West Chester followed behind last fall with similar success.
Madanat is hoping to continue that success with Ice Cream West Chester.
