Gwynedd Mercy University, which has been led by visionary women since it was established in 1948 by the Sisters of Mercy, is celebrating 75 years of collegiate excellence, writes Alyana Gomez for 6abc.

The institution’s rich history of female leadership is continued in the present by the current President of Gwynedd Mercy University, Deanne D’Emilio.

“It’s an honor for me to be in this role and I feel every day the inspiration of the women,” said D’Emilio.

D’Emilio was chosen to be the sixth woman to lead the private Catholic university in Gwynedd Valley seven years ago. She has since proven to be a changemaker in her own right, just like her predecessors.

Under her leadership, Gwynedd Mercy is growing. She tripled the sale of the school’s East campus and secured a $10 million gift for the construction of a new medical center.

“The new Frances M. Maguire Healthcare Innovation Center – when it is completed, it will be our largest academic building at around 63,000 square feet,” said D’Emilio.

She was recognized for these achievements as the 2022 Woman of Distinction by the Philadelphia Business Journal.
