The Center for Creative Works in Wynnewood is helping an artist with Down Syndrome share her colorful pillows with the world, writes Matteo Iadonisi for 6abc.

“I was diagnosed with Down Syndrome,” said Lucia Castrogiovanni, a 46-year-old from Yeadon. “There’s a few things I can or cannot do. But I can make artwork.”

Castrogiovanni found out about the Center for Creative Works in the late 2010s. The facility is home to a group of artists that have neurodiverse backgrounds. Several times a year, the center hosts an open house where visitors can buy artwork, pillows, and more crafted by individuals like Castrogiovanni.

“I’m an artist, and my specialty is making pillows,” she said.

In addition to selling her creations at the center’s open houses, Castrogiovanni also sells her pillows online.

She hopes that her story and success will inspire others to explore their artistic side.

“Whoever else does have a disability, you can put your heart through your artwork,” she said.
