Leaders and students at the Valley Forge Baptist Academy in Collegeville held a special Black History Month celebration last week, writes Kim Hudson for CBS News Philadelphia.

“I want to welcome everyone to our annual Black History Month chapel,” said Choja Osokpo, the first Black student body president in the history of the school.

“I’m glad that the people of this school chose me to be their president, that they trusted me with that office.”

He added that his election shows that the school with its predominantly White student body truly values diversity and welcomes change.

“I think that once we break the ice, the potential is endless,” said Osokpo. “So I think that now that we’ve broken the ice, we can build on it and we can create something really special at this school.”

The event featured history lessons, starting with a film made by Virginia Pastor Roger Sebrell explaining how Black History Month came to be.

Meanwhile, Valley Forge Baptist Church Senior Pastor Scott Wendal talked about the ways in which the church and the school work together to encourage diversity.
