Since beginning her fashion design career in her 50s, Nancy Volpe Beringer has been a strong voice for inclusivity within the industry.

Fashion designer Nancy Volpe Beringer, a Philadelphia sports fan and runner-up on season 18 of Bravo’s “Project Runway,” advocates for inclusivity with her work, writes Dave Uramfor KYW Newsradio.

Volpe Beringer designs Philadelphia sports-themed fashion items.

“It’s innate, that you do whatever you can as a fan,” she said. “So, I started to make some outfits to go to the games, and it just kinda spread and caught fire.”

Her designs were worn by former Philadelphia Eagles safety Anthony Harris on the field the night the Eagles advanced to Super Bowl LVII. She also designed an Eagles-themed wedding gown that went viral online.

Volpe Beringer got into fashion in her 50s, after leaving her stable management job. She enrolled in Drexel University’s master’s degree program and graduated at 61.

She applied for “Project Runway” and made history as the first contestant in their 60s.

She nearly won in the season 18 finale, where she was paired with Tatyana McFadden, an athlete in the Paralympic Games. This prompted her to start advocating for inclusivity in fashion.

“Fashion is about expressing your individuality,” she said. “And for me, everybody should have that opportunity.”

She ensures that opportunity through her work.
