Real fur has been a controversial subject for decades, but more people on the Main Line seem to be revisiting old trends and donning fur coats this winter.

Real fur has been a controversial subject for decades, but with the “Mob Wife” look trending, more people on the Main Line seem to be once again donning their old – or even new – fur coats this winter, writes Diane Oliva for the Main Line Tonight.

The issue remains an emotional one with ethical connotations. As a result, many local fashionistas both love and own fur, but rarely will admit to it publicly.

The person who knows the most about fur trends in the area is probably Hal Stupp, owner of Stupp Furs, the last Main Line fur store. His business is currently thriving, he said.

His customers range from local sports celebrities and their wives to business executives to stay-at-home moms.

In addition to selling fur at his third-generation family business, Stupp, who graduated from the Fashion Institute of Design, also restyles, repairs, and cleans furs.

His argument for genuine fur is that it is warm, it has style, and it is sustainable since a good coat can last for over half a century.
