It’s a Homecoming For Kyle Lowry As He Heads to the Philadelphia 76ers
After a trade and subsequent contract buyout, Kyle Lowry will soon embark on a homecoming as he intends to sign with the Philadelphia 76ers, writes Justin Grasso for Sports Illustrated.
Lowry was born and raised in North Philadelphia and played basketball at Cardinal Dougherty High School before playing two years of college basketball at Villanova University.
Lowry was the No. 24 pick of the 2006 NBA Draft by the Memphis Grizzlies. After stops with the Grizzlies, Houston Rockets, Toronto Raptors, and the Miami Heat, Lowry’s basketball career will come full circle.
Earlier this month, he was traded by the Heat to the Charlotte Hornets, who mutually agreed to a contract buyout, paving the way for him to sign with the Sixers.
The Sixers have pursued Lowry in past years, as well.
Being a member of the Sixers is not only a homecoming for Lowry to Philadelphia.
He also reunites with head coach Nick Nurse, who coached him with the Raptors and won the NBA championship together in 2019.
The hope is that Lowry and Nurse can recreate that magic in Philly as the latter part of the NBA season ensues.
