Which Pennsylvania Counties Have the Highest-Paying School Districts?

Lower Merion School District in Montgomery County had the highest paid professional staff in the Greater Philadelphia Area.

Montgomery County has some of Pennsylvania’s highest-paying school districts, writes Ryan Mulligan for the Philadelphia Business Journal.

An analysis of Pennsylvania Department of Education data from the 2022-2023 school year shows that by county, Montgomery County has the second-best paid school district staff with an average salary of $92,300.

Bucks County has the best-paid staff in the state, with an average salary of $94,2000.

Broken down further, Lower Merion School District in Montgomery County had the highest-paid professional staff in the Greater Philadelphia area.

The average professional pay – which includes teachers, guidance counselors, and administrators – at Lower Merion School District for the 2022-23 school year was about $111,600 per year.

Upper Dublin School District ranked third with an average salary of $107,100. Colonial, Upper Merion, Lower Moreland, and Wissahickon also pay their staff on average more than $100,000 per year.

Pottstown School District has one of the lower average salaries in the Greater Philadelphia area with an average salary of $70,000.

Several factors influenced what professional staff got paid, including their length of service.
