For Lower Gwynedd interior designer Sami Riccioli, her hobby decorating her tree for other holidays like St. Patrick’s Day and Cinco de Mayo quickly turned into a business.

While many of us put away our Christmas tree and decorations soon after New Year’s, there is a growing group of people who enjoy decorating their artificial evergreen trees for other holidays as well, writes Veronica Dagher for The Wall Street Journal.

From Valentine’s Day to Flag Day, decorators are finding reasons to keep the celebration going.

The why for this growing trend is often multifold. Some may do it because it reminds them of a loved one, while others like the idea of extending the joy of the holiday season.

“The tree is a way to express playfulness and boost mood,” explains New York City therapist Karol Ward.

For Lower Gwynedd interior designer Sami Riccioli, her hobby of decorating her tree for other holidays like St. Patrick’s Day and Cinco de Mayo quickly turned into a business.

After the love she received on Instagram for photos of her trees, companies started coming to her to ask her to design custom trees for store windows.

Just recently she created one for a movie promotion.

Still, not everyone who visits her home appreciates her vision.

“One repairman said he thought I still had my Christmas tree up in April because I was too lazy to take it down,” she said.
