Kobe dug a hole outside his Philadelphia home and helped detect a gas leak.

A 4-year-old husky named Kobe is being called a hero after he saved a neighborhood from a gas leak that could have led to an explosion, writes Kelli Bender for People.

The dog started digging a large hole in the front of his Philadelphia home.

As the hole grew bigger, Kobe’s owner, Chanel Bell, started to grow concerned that the dog was trying to tell her something.

“I trust his judgment because this isn’t his typical behavior, and he is usually right,” said Bell. “He has great senses, and he never digs holes unless he is helping me dig.”

Bell had possession of a gas detection device after discovering a previous gas leak in her home last year, so she decided to use it to test Kobe’s freshly dug hole.

The device detected gas coming from the hole, leading Bell to contact the authorities about it.

“We were told it could’ve caused serious health effects like respiratory issues, brain damage, and even death. They told me that something as simple as a light switch turning on could’ve caused an explosion, too!” said Bell.

The crew turned off the gas and repaired the leak, then found and repaired three main gas leaks in the neighborhood, all thanks to Kobe’s heroic efforts.
